A headline for one of the enewsletters I receive said that today, September 12, is National Get Out of Debt Day. When I went to find out what exactly "Get Out of Debt Day" was, I couldn't find reference to it in an online search. But as I thought about it, everyday should be "Get Out of Debt" day. Our philosophy at TUFA is that only some forms of debt qualify as "good" debt. That would be debt incurred to acquire an asset that will increase in value. Examples would be home mortgages and prudent investment debt. It would not include credit card or consumer debt. So we would say that any day you have outstanding credit card or consumer debt is a day to get rid of it. So have a Happy "Get Out of Debt Day" and go pay something off!
